Late last week we reported that Ghost Recon: Future Soldier’s DLC would be unlocking on-disc content that Ubisoft tucked away for future use. Now thanks to GameStop, we know which mode we’ll be able to unlock first. read more…
Looking back at this update is rather…depressing. Here we had what was supposed to introduce a plethora of trials – GoldenEye, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and Arkham City- and now because of one mistake, all of that turns out to be false. Oh well, at least we have a ridiculous amount of discounts! Hopefully Rayman: Origins still has a trial for next week’s update, until then, hit the jump to see what we did get! read more…
It always baffles me when companies arrive at launch day completely unprepared for their game to go live. For the minions who have waiting 12 long years to continue the story of Diablo, the release day for Diablo III has to be anything but what they had hoped for. It started in the wee hours of the morning following what looks to have been one of the more successful midnight launches I have ever been to, rivaling that of Star Wars: The Old Republic, Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 off of recent memory, but all of those games combined couldn’t rack up the sheer amount of problems Diablo III is currently offering their fans.
It started with an ominous “Error 37,” which was so rampant and widespread it ended up trending world-wide on Twitter. Now that I have the game installed and ready to go, I finally log on to an Error 317002, which apparently means the servers are down. This leads me to two questions:
1. Why did I have to Google “Error 317002″ like so many others just to figure out the servers were down? Why can’t the error just say “holy shit, it’s day one and the servers are down!”
2. Why in the name of all that is unholy do I need a server to play a single player game? I mean, I get that there are public games, and if those are effected, then sure. No problem. But you mean to tell me I can’t even play the single player? Wow.
This will probably go down as one of the biggest day one disasters in gaming history. This is the downside of always on DRM. Not only do I need an internet connection to play a single player game, but the Blizzard/Battle.net servers have to be up as well. Such a shame. I guess the good news is that this will eventually work itself out and run smoothly at some point, but these are the type of problems you hope not to see on release day. Anyway, the servers may be back up by the time you read this, so hopefully fun experiences are about to follow.
May 15th is the day of the comeback. Based on my midnight release experience last night that saw about 110 out of the 120 people in attendance getting ready to Error 37 it up, I was a little surprised to see Max Payne wasn’t getting any love. Sure, it wasn’t quite a 12 year gap like the majority of people in line waiting for Diablo 3, but for fans of the Max Payne series out there, nine years is nothing to shake a stick at. Admittedly, calling myself a Max Payne “fan” would be the overstatement of the year since… Max Payne 3 is serving as my introduction to the Max Payne franchise. Hey, everyone starts somewhere, right?
I obviously have a pretty good idea of who Max Payne is and my journey towards purchasing this game was a fairly interesting one. Rockstar had to sell me on it, and that they did, with a flurry of interesting trailers and information during the lead-up to release that made me want to give the game a try. Plus, it’s Rockstar, and considering how much time Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire have consumed in my life, I can safely say they are a company that I trust to make a good game.
And so far, that they have. Max Payne has fallen hard over the last nine years and he serves his days as a washed up drunk serving as security for a rich Brazilian family that seems to have some shady dealings. Below you will find the first two chapters of the game, which really do an outstanding job of bringing the wow factor into the start of a game. There is a huge variation of gameplay and in true Rockstar fashion, tons of story. I find myself really enjoying Max’s narration as I go about the game and really look forward to seeing where everything goes. So check out the first two chapters of the game below and let us know what you think. Max Payne 3 is in stores now on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The PC version for Windows will follow on May 29th.
Presented above is the first English trailer for the American release of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. Dream Drop Distance follows Sora and friend’s latest journey, features new gameplay, use of the 3DS’s 3D and more! The trailer’s quite long, clocking in at just under 10 minutes, and shows off a good portion of the game’s mechanics. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be available in the United States on July 31, 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS.
The lovely Coco reveals she is the latest member of Team Ghost and I honestly couldn’t think of a better person I would want next to me on the battlefield. Ubisoft brought Coco on for her expert knowledge of weapons and will be the resident gunsmith. “My role is to make sure that everyone is equipped with the right weapon for the mission at hand,” Coco explains. Check out what else Coco had to say and be on the lookout for the last member of Team Ghost to be revealed.
Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi was the franchise’s pinnacle outing into the 3D realm, this changed the formula from a 2D fighter into the 3D fighter that we’ve seen for the past six years. Since then, the series has seen more characters, in-game transformations and a transition into the HD realm with the Raging Blast series.
The image above, found by NeoGaf user “Sylver”, shows what appears to be a page for the unannounced title Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi HD Collection. This collection would bring together the three Budokai Tenkaichi games to the Xbox 360, and PS3 complete with trophies, and possibly 3D support. Take note, this retailer is the same one that leaked the Devil May Cry HD Collection before it was announced, so this listing might not be so far-fetched. Nonetheless, this is still a rumor until proven true. With E3 quickly approaching, we can expect to see an announcement for this collection as well as some gameplay for Dragon Ball Z: Kinect soon.
Just a few days ago Ubisoft announced that their upcoming title, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, had gone gold, and only a few days after that announcement, they revealed ‘Arctic Strike’. Arctic Strike is Future Soldier’s first piece of DLC and will add more maps for both competitive and Guerilla Co-Op multiplayer as well as a new multiplayer mode and some weapons. With Arctic Strike pegged for a July 3rd release, it seemed that Ubisoft had broken out of the on-disc DLC trend that has popularized itself among gaming developers. It turns out that assumption could be wrong.
Found by the Ubisoft forums user “fiqst”, the image above shows what appears to be Future Soldier’s seven multiplayer modes. What makes this considerably odd is that Ubisoft has only ever talked about four of them: Decoy, Siege, Conflict and Saboteur.
Ubisoft generously let us test out Conflict at the start of the beta, while Saboteur followed suit a week into the beta’s launch, leaving only Decoy and Siege unplayed by the public. This didn’t stop Ubisoft from providing details about these and the former two game modes though. Ubisoft staff member, Ubi-Mush, had this to say about the game modes:
Here is a more in depth description of the multiplayer modes;
. Conflict -
Your team’s been deployed to accomplish multiple objectives, but enemy forces are in the area to stop you at all costs. Taking out hostiles is only part of the job; to win the battle, you’ll have to complete your objectives before they complete theirs.. Saboteur -
There’s a bomb loose on the battlefield, and hostiles are attempting to move it into your field HQ. The only way to win this one is to do unto others before they do unto you. Your team must secure the bomb and plant it in the enemy’s base.. Siege -
Your team must either attack or defend a critical location. Defenders have a few short moments to prepare before the attacking force is unleashed.
Every shot counts; you’ve only got one life to achieve your objective.
Teams switch roles after each round, best of three wins.. Decoy -
Your team must either attack or defend a crucial target. The attacking team must first recover intel from one of three locations to identify their final target. But the defenders have an ace up their sleeve; two of the objectives are decoy traps. Attackers must successfully identify and complete their final objective. Defenders must stop them at all costs.
Teams switch roles after each round, best of three
As you can see, Ubi-Mush didn’t acknowledge the other three game modes that were in the screenshot, which leads us to believe that they could very well be on-disc DLC. Which of these modes will be added in the Arctic Strike DLC is still a mystery but chances are, somebody will gain access to the modes through a hack in the coming weeks.

May 22nd is right around the corner and all Ghost Recon fans are on the edge with anticipation, ready for Future soldier to drop. We understand because we’re still playing the beta and it’s fantastic. This morning Ubisoft released early access to the Live action Ghost Recon Aplha movie for certain UPlay members. This is the prequel to the Ghost Recon future story that we will be playing when the game releases on the 22nd. Hope you enjoy.
That’s right folks! Time to get your power level on. Starting at 12:01AM PST on Saturday and running until 11:59 PM PST on Sunday, participants in matches in all game modes on Battlefield 3 will be rewarded with Double XP at the end of each round as “additional points.” That’s right folks, no reward for rage quitting! I’ve been sitting on Colonel 14 for way too long, so it looks like I’ll be getting back on the Battlefield this weekend for sure.
It sounds like the “Close Quarters” DLC is set to hit Playstation 3 on June 5th and the Xbox 360/PC June 12th. According to MP1st.com, there is also some sort of “Battlefield Premium” pack coming as well. We’ll see what that is all about. Exciting stuff seems to be on the way for sure! For now, enjoy this random match with commentary via your’s truly:
