Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360 nearly outsells PS3 3:1

With the recent release of the November NPD numbers, Modern Warfare 2 was the big winner. Taking the top 2 spots on the November software sales chart. This great accomplishment brought my attention to the ratio of 360 versions bought to Playstation 3 versions. Playstation 3 sold a remarkable 1.87 Million but on the other hand the Xbox 360 sold an unheard of 4.20 million. A ratio of nearly 3:1  More specifically 2.245989304812834:1 Infinity Ward did say they felt Xbox 360 had a better community, I guess these numbers prove them right.

It might have something to do with the fact that Xbox owners actually play games not watch Blu-Rays.  (Quote)

face it.. 360 gamers like FPS more than others. even though its a multi platform game but it serve 360 like a exclusive game.. NPD data proves in Nov. well, it proves 3rd party game can be more powerful than 1st party.  (Quote)

Nearly outsells 3:1? If 2.25 is ‘nearly’ 3 then I suggest you take STATS 101.

Nevertheless, I’m hardly surprised by the numbers. 360 has the bigger base, especially in regards to CoD gamers and migrating Halo players. The reality is, the PS3 gamer is much different than the 360 gamer. They’re a ‘multi-gamer’ of sorts. While I know plenty of 360 owners who ONLY play CoD and Halo I don’t know a single PS3 owner who hasn’t beaten at least 3 or 4 of this fall’s hottest titles (read: Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Demon Souls, etc.)

So what can we assess from the 2.25:1 (hell, lets round up, make it 5:1) sales ratio? 360 gamers have obviously been waiting for this…one…game.  (Quote)

what a stupid thing to say, and the facts point to you being 100% wrong.

the 360s game attach rate is significantly higher than that of the PS3, so 360 owners play more games than PS3 owners.  (Quote)

Ah yes, you must be a fanboy using those self-serving, cherry picked statistics. The 360 market is clear: shooters. Deny that, and you’re a fool.  (Quote)

You’re right, those numbers are solid–but are *close* to PS3 sales (ACII 500K, DA:O 300k).

Given the ratio of 360’s to PS3’s (1.3:1) both ACII and DA:O sales ratios are slightly in favor of the 360 (arguably due to strong PS3 exclusives), but no where near the ‘3:1′ CoD ratio. So to re-affirm, 360 market = shooters.  (Quote)

it’s completely clear that there are more MW2 copies sold for the 360 in the USA:
    - much bigger install base
    - FPS more popular on the 360
    - much more great exclusives on the PS3 atm, which takes sales from MW2

if you look at the sales outside of the USA, where the install base of 360 and PS3 is more even, you’ll see that the MW2 sales are also nearly even (2.01 : 1.95).  (Quote)

Pathetic Xbox fanboys like the writer of this article want to act like the rest of the world doesn’t exist, and that only sales in US matters.

360 still has a significantly larger install base in the US than the PS3, which would make perfect sense as to why Modern Warfare 2 outsold the PS3 version 2:1 (NOT 3:1 as the artcle INNACURATELY STATES).  (Quote)

what else is there to buy on xbox this year. all year and only two exclusive titles( halo wars and forza 3)and don’t start saying there is more than that cause expansion packs don’t count just cause u payed full price doesn’t make it a new game. if i owned a xbox i would have bought modernwarefare 2 but i don’t so i have alot more options this year, ps3 exclusives(Killzone2, Infamous, Uncharted2, Demon’s Souls, Racthet and Clank and multiplat games( Borderlands, Prototype, Ghostbusters, Batman, and the list goes on) and then next year there are even more games for both systems, so i think its more to do with the larger variety of games on PS3 this year than with MS having a bigger community.  (Quote)

Left 4 Dead 2 is also an exclusive, and it shifted nearly a million in not even its first month in the US alone. most PS3 exclusives could only dream of those figures.

The 360 had just as many exclusives – Forza 3, ODST, L4D2, Shadow Complex, Halo Wars, GTAIV Tales of Liberty City, etc. – and they all met or exceeded expectations. the same cant be said for the PS3s **cough**killzone 2 **cough**infamous**cough  (Quote)

I’d be careful what exclusives you include. GTAIV:ToLC has sold less than DragonAge in less time. For a game with a 7 million gamer base, 260K really met expectations? Halo Wars, part of the golden-boy 360 franchise, has been outsold by Killzone 2. That met expectations? Sure, if they’re low.

But your focus on sales is right, more sales mean better games. Uncharted 2 and LittleBigPlanet have higher Metacritic scores than any 360 exclusive in the last 4 years—but haven’t sold 5 million copies. They must suck.

The mantra of 360 fanboys: sales = quality. I get enough of that kinda talk on comms, keep it on the voice chat please.  (Quote)

This is based on NPD numbers, why would they include “the rest of the world” in this article? Just to keep from hurting PS3 fanboys feelings?

Its funny how now that MW2 has topped Killzone 2 in everyway, now suddenly FPS’s are the genre of stupid little “xbots” again.

The reason this game sold better on 360 is because its about the multiplayer, and the multiplayer community is far superior on XBL compared to psn.  (Quote)

Better support for friends and parties on the 360 version. So people who own both consoles will buy for the 360 version over the ps3 version.  (Quote)
