Miyamoto recently confirmed the rumors that Nintendo were indeed working on new hardware. We first heard of reports of new hardware a few days ago, when an industry insider close to VideoGamer.com disclosed some information regarding a revelation at this year's Game Developer's Conference. Japanese gaming reporter site Andriasang attended the Annual Japan Media Arts Festival, where Nintendo boss Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that they were indeed working on something new.
While we know it's not uncommon for console manufacturers to be working on their next hot item before their current offerings fizzle out, the fact that we're only 3.5 years into the Wii's lifespan makes me question just what it is we could be seeing. I can't speculate too much since we don't have any sort of confirmation that this new console will be shown at GDC, but if that's the case then I don't see this being much more than a Wii HD, which analyst Michael Pachter assures us that Nintendo should be bringing out very soon.
We'll keep you updated as the GDC kicks off March 9th, 2010.
