In a recent Forbes interview, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime was giving off an impression that the company themselves aren’t thinking too heavy on the next console.
When discussing about the current console (Wii) he said, “because we have hardware developers working side by side with software developers, is that when the software developer comes forward with an idea that can’t be executed on the current platform, that’s when we start thinking seriously about the next system. We’re not there yet, from a Wii perspective.” Of course, E3 is still a few months away.
Personally, with the constant rise of sells for the Wii, I doubt they need to make a new console. Pleasing hardcore gamers when we have now witnessed them to be a small part of the actual consumers isn’t needed. Why? Because Nintendo is a business like any other company. In saying that though, I do hope we get some quality games at least. I would like to see a Heavy Rain type of game for the Wii.

I say forego the external harddrive and just update the existing hardware to allow SDXC cards and downloadable games larger than 200 megabytes. dude87(Quote)
