GameTrailers has the latest video in BigHugeGames’ “A Heroes Guide To Amalur” series that aims to enlighten the player to everything within the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning world. This latest video, entitled “A New World To Discover” takes future adventurers through Amalur, showing the swamps, mountains, and even a few of the populated towns. Players also get a brief glimpse into Reckoning’s quest system which is said to have some easy quests, and some harder, more “involved” quests that will award the player with great riches.
Although all of this is nice, what really caught my attention was the shift from daytime to nighttime and how what would normally be a minor thing in an RPG, really affects the world. When night hits Amalur, some NPCs that would normally be roaming the cityscape, can now be found in their houses, protected from the danger that lurks when night casts it’s shadow over Amalur. Monsters begin roaming the towns, engaging in battle with other monsters, or even NPCs that bravely (or even foolishly) dare to venture out of their homes in this dangerous hour. Nighttime takes what would normally act as a respite from the battle-heavy life of the adventurer into a no-rules, anything-goes environment, where only the most cunning adventurers will survive to see the light of day.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an action-rpg devloped by BigHugeGames for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC that will be released on February 7, 2012. GameStops around America are partaking in a midnight launch to mark the beginning of the heroes’ journey into Amalur, so make sure to pre-order the game, and don’t miss out on the fun!
