  • The Beatles: Rock Band Review
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted December 9th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
I have been playing the hell out of The Beatles Rock Band on the Xbox 360 and have greatly enjoyed it.  In fact, the amount that I have enjoyed it befuddles me since I have been playing games of its genre for years now.  I own and play The Beatles Rock Band regularly.   I even played Guitar Freaks in arcades and Frequency on the PS2 (don't sleep, it is an ill game).  For some reason, The Beatles Rock Band just seems like a vastly superior experience to its predecessor, even though Developer...
  • Borderlands Review

FPSs and RPGs are staple genres in gaming.  They have been used over and over again.  These genres have been used to the point of exhaustion.  There are a few new IPs that are expanding and reinventing these genres.  Enter Gearbox Software and 2K Games with the sleeper hit, Borderlands.  This game successfully combines the two previously mentioned genres into one.   Gearbox themselves call the game a RPS (role-playing shooter).  The irony is, that is not the only thing that makes it uniq...
  • NBA 2K10 Review (post patch)
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted November 30th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
The NBA 2K series has been around for a decade now.  I still remember playing the initial entry for this and its football counterpart on the Sega Dreamcast (which I still own and play, Jet Grind Radio FTW).  I was hooked right away.  The realism and skill required was seen in no other basketball game before it.  Since then, I have played numerous iterations in this franchise and even got hooked on the college basketball series (R.I.P.).  Oddly, NBA 2K10: Draft Combine was the first basketba...
  • Over 1,000 songs now available for the Rock Band Platform
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted November 26th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
With only four releases on home consoles (Rock Band, Rock Band 2,  LEGO Rock Band, and The Beatles: Rock Band), the people over at Harmonix and MTV Games have announced that over one thousand songs are available in Rock Band.  The amazing speed at which they amassed this bounty of tracks is no doubt due mainly to the avid support given to downloadable content for this franchise.  I myself have Rock Band 2 with Rock Band 1 imported and tons of DLC tracks.  As I write this I am about to downlo...
  • Rock Band and Old Navy joining forces this holiday season
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted November 26th, 2009 at 10:49 am
At first look, this pairing doesn't seem to make a lot of sense.  Post viewing the details of the collaboration, my thoughts have changed.  Think about it, even gamers need to wear clothes right?  Seriously though, this move allows MTV Games and Harmonix to reach a crowd of shoppers that might not have been accessible to them.  Old Navy benefits by having a huge draw to make their stores standout this holiday shopping season.  The real beneficaries are the fans/shoppers who get to enjoy som...

  • Soapbox #3: Perfection in gaming impeded by “Hype”?
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted November 16th, 2009 at 3:17 am
While pondering over what topic I would be my focus for this installment of the Sunday Soapbox, one issue just leaped out me.  Perfection in gaming is a topic of discussion regularly between my friends and myself.  The weird thing is as I started writing I remember that I had already delved into this topic once before.  I gave it a gander and realized that my views on the topic remained valid.  Ergo, I decided to share this retro, updated soapbox with all of you (Remember Lever 2000?  Okay,...

  • Nintendo adds Netflix Support?
    by Michael Ajibade
    Posted October 30th, 2009 at 11:51 am
Yeah, you read correct.  Upon the recent news of the PS3 adding Netflix (comes in November), it appears that Nintendo does not want to be the odd man out.  Nintendo appears to be testing Netflix out and even plans for a release by the end of this year.  Rumors also state that Netflix may be held off till the "Wii HD" in early next year.  I honestly did not see this coming.  I guess everyone has seen the success that Xbox Live has had with their Netflix integration and wanted in.  This good...
