Xbox Live continues to build its growing portfolio of applications with the additions of Crackle and CinemaNow.
If Crackle sounds familiar then you’ve probably heard somebody mention the service when talking about Sony’s PlayStation Home, well now Xbox Live users will be able to enjoy full-length movies and tv shows, all from their game console!
It’s not like this wasn’t possible before what with Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, and even the Zune Marketplace already available through the Xbox Apps Marketplace, but hey it’s another option. Although you are getting movies, and tv shows (anime included) with added Kinect support through this application, the downside is that Crackle’s selection of media isn’t as broad as say, Netflix, but for a free app, it does what it can pretty well.
Also coming to the Xbox Apps Marketplace is CinemaNow, a service ran by BestBuy that allows you to rent or purchase, movies and tv shows through your Xbox 360. If you’re looking for a wider selection of titles to choose from then CinemaNow is definitely the right choice. It offers a more expansive list of titles to choose from, including new releases, that Crackle, does not have. The downside to this application? You have to pay for the items that you acquire through the service.
Both applications are now available on the Xbox Apps Marketplace on Xbox Live. Oh, one more thing, you’ll need a Gold membership to access these apps.
