[UPDATE] EA is Threatening to Ban People Who Want a Refund Over Sim City

simcity

UPDATE:

EA has responded, stating that they are not banning people who requests refunds and to check their returns & cancellations policy. Additionally, we’ve found out that EA does not offer refunds on digital purchases, so your mileage may vary. You can check out the full statement below.

Regarding a rumor: We will not ban players for requesting refunds. Please review our returns & cancellations policy: https://help.ea.com/article/returns-and-cancellations

Did you recently purchase Sim City only to be disappointed by the fact that you have to have an internet connection to even play the game? Well, you’re not the only one. People have been rather vocal about this. EA just aggravated the fire even more though. Earlier today, EA announced that they would be doing server maintenance on the servers. That’s all fine and good, until you remember that you can’t play the game if no servers are up.

After the maintenance, EA issued a patch for certain regions which was supposed to fix a few things, but instead made it so that nobody could access the game. That’s not good. Naturally, people are going to want a refund, like CalebPeters.

However, CalebPeters encountered a road block on his quest to get a refund over his recent purchase when an EA customer service representative informed him that he was unable to refund Caleb despite the fact that EA issued a press release stating that refunds would be available should they be requested.

Caleb promptly brought this into light, he even mentioned the fact that consumers who purchased from distribution services that weren’t Origin were able to secure a refund. When this was brought up, Adrian, Caleb’s CS rep, informed Caleb that pressing further into this matter would result in him encountering an account ban. No matter what Caleb said, Adrian continued to state that a refund would not be offered.

Of course you can’t necessarily blame Adrian for this since he’s most likely just doing what his supervisors told him to, but when you threaten to ban someone who purchased your product, and was prepared to sink hours into it, with a ban, that’s not good.

We’ve reached out to EA for a comment. We’ll update you guys if we hear from them.

I want a refund, too! The ONLY way to stop this from happening again in the future is to not support/purchase products from these companies, and to spread the word.  You know, PC gamers are a dying breed, unfortunately, and this is one of the reasons why.  I like PC games better than console games, because there was once a time when games were made for people other than  8 year olds.   EA:  refund my money, let me know when you have a working game, and then I’ll  “think” about buying it at that time. Thank you.

    • SneakyPayload

@bundy Sorry, but do your market research.  The PC gaming field has been growing the past few years.  And if you haven’t noticed, steam is rolling out there own Platform, and has moved onto Mac, and Linux support for some titles.  I have had the same 1000 dollar machine for 4 years, and can play whatever I want at decent settings.  Why buy a PS3 or Xbox?  I can do everything and then some.

    • BenjaminEugeneNElson

      @bundy someone gets it.

  • JohnnyboySP

@MainEventTV_AKA according to posts in the forum non-origin users had a much easier time getting refunds. Uh… Yay Origin?! >_>

  • NathanGarcia1

DO NOT PREORDER EA GAMES. They pay attention to those numbers and it WILL make a difference.

    • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@NathanGarcia1 don’t play EA games at all.  It’s the only thing they’ll listen too.

  • Such_the_Madman

@MainEventTV_AKA Why I will NEVER buy an EA game EVER AGAIN!! They should be out of business!

    • MainEventTV_AKA

@Such_the_Madman Yet other gamers will still support EA.

      • Such_the_Madman

@MainEventTV_AKA As you have said, they just don’t care.

  • RinkuGutierrez

@MainEventTV_AKA wtf who does ea think they are

  • F2CMaDMaXX

@ronin0ni they already came out and denied that.

  • JackBurton1

Call your credit card company, they’ll refund you and EA cant do a thing

    • CWColeman

@JackBurton1 except ban your account for doing a charge back.

      • IPostComments

        @CWColeman  @JackBurton1

      • Adam Ca

@CWColeman  @JackBurton1 Getting a refund and then being banned seems entirely fair since that was your goal in the first place.

      • IPostComments

@CWColeman  @JackBurton1 Why would you care if you account is banned? You shouldn’t be touching anything with the EA logo on it ever again anyway.

      • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@CWColeman  @JackBurton1 You mean a fraudulent chargeback?  You know.. breaking the law?

        • enefLA

@BenjaminEugeneNElson  @CWColeman  @JackBurton1 There is nothing fraudulent about it. You pay for said product, it doesnt work the way its supposed to, you want your money back, they wont give it. Thats considered fraud on their side of the things. Sources: I work in a law office.

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

Then they should lawyer up, or contact the police about it, not harass a customer support rep.  Which is what the people who are getting banned over this are doing.

          Source: common sense.

        • enefLA

@BenjaminEugeneNElson What? They are supposed to patch you to a supervisor, not take it upon themselves to figure out their own companies fuck ups. source: also common sense.

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

IF it’s so illegal and false advertising and blah blah blah, the proper thing to do is take them to court and/or get the police involved.  Whining to the powerless customer support guy is not going to help.

And those poor schmucks are usually literally told exactly what they can and can not do.  Exactly.   They’re supposed to keep it from escalating, so of course they generally don’t expect it.

It’s really not that complex, you don’t have to be a lawyer to figure it out.

        • carey7219

@BenjaminEugeneNElson would you take a 60$ game to court? would you call the police over getting 60$ stolen from you? My source, common sense, tells me that would be a huge waste of time and money and you would lose more than you would ever hope to gain. It’s more complex than you give it credit for and in your ignorance you sound like a total douche! Petition, petition, petition. There is one running right now. Google it or something, you fuck-tard. Or do you only use independent search engines?

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@carey7219 Small claims court. Ever hear of it?  It is literally made for this kind of situation. about 50 bucks and you have your case seen.

Yes, calling me a fucktard totally doesn’t make you look like a douchebag, Mr internet tough guy.

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@carey7219 Small claims court.  Ever hear of it?  It’s literally made for this kind of situation.  50 bucks, you can get your case seen.

        • carey7219

@BenjaminEugeneNElson Yup. My point still stands. It’s a huge waste of time and money. Police involvement of 60 dollars is trivial. They have other, more essential jobs to take care of. Regardless, a lawsuit should be the last resort in dealing with a civil dispute.
I’ll give you a story for illustration.
There was a time in my life when I worked at a restaurant and a lady fell and broke her leg. She was the horrid sales clerk from next door and she decided to sprint through the dining room to yell out our manager over parking (she had some problem with bikes close to her store). She slipped as she was passing our “Wet Floor Sign”, broke her arm and sued. This happens a few times a year for one or another odd-ball reason because there is a plague of sue-happy people like you. They are a detriment to society.

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@carey7219 Then shut up.  If you’re just going to whine about how much it sucks and do nothing to deal with it I have no sympathy for you.

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

  • whitefire377

its called a class action lawsuit americans reading this should know that one. this is a simple case of false advertising and right out lies and is a easy case for any lawyer

    • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@whitefire377 They told us that it required an internet connection.. how is that false advertising?

      • whitefire377

@BenjaminEugeneNElson  @whitefire377 easy its on video saying this stupidity wouldent happen. there is a big difrence to needing to be online and the game being unplayable for a good number of people due to their lives and server issues. these problems are my issue not requiring internet hell its got to the point where they are disabling features of the game to try to make it stable that is false advertising to a fucking tee

        • BenjaminEugeneNElson

          That’s not false advertising.

That’s not even advertising, that’s someone saying “we want it to be this way.”  IF you could get sued for that Peter Molyneux would never be able to own anything again ever.

MironSchmidt That one is actually untrue. http://t.co/UvqzuqqKzLKzL

Xeknos Oh! I thought that had happened to you, so I was surprised you weren’t even MORE pissed about it. 😛

  • Bob Dole

EA sucks and everyone knows it, not sure why people still buy their games

  • BenjaminEugeneNElson

@SneakyPayload   Yes but 80% or so of the games I’m in are by indie developers anyway.  Poeple I’d gladly give my money too anyway.  Just saw the play test for the upcoming Shadowrun reboot for example.
