Firmware 2.00 Brings PlayStation Plus and More to the Vita Next Week

PlayStation Plus is just around the corner for Vita owners. Earlier this morning, Sony revealed their plans for PlayStation Plus on their newest handheld.

Both existing and new PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to 6 games from the Vita’s Instant Game Collection, 1GB of cloud storage, Automatic Updates, and trophy syncing when PlayStation Plus launches on the Vita next Tuesday. Firmware 2.00 will update the Vita to¬†accommodate¬†all of PlayStation Plus’ additions and more next Monday. Firmware Version 2.00 brings the following:

  • 1GB of Cloud Save Storage via the Content Manager Application
  • An Email application that supports up to 5,000 contacts
  • Trophy Syncing
  • Automatic Updates
  • The ability to Tweet URL’s from the Vita’s browser
  • Wirelesly transfer content to and from a PC
  • 1080p video playback and Closed Captioning from the Video Application

The Instant Game Collection includes a catalog of six games to play on your Vita. As of next Tuesday, those six will be:

  • Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
  • Gravity Rush
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Jet Set Radio HD
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Wipeout 2048

PlayStation’s Don Mesa also let us know that PlayStation Plus’ cloud save storage will allow you to effortlessly switch from a retail copy to a digital copy of a game without losing your save. From Tuesday on, the US PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection will include 12 PS3 games along with 6 Vita games, letting users have an instant selection of 18 games at their fingertips while they are a PlayStation Plus subscriber.
