Alex Cross Theatrical Trailer

The trailer for Alex Cross, the James Patterson adaptation in which Tyler Perry assumes the titular detective role made famous by Morgan Freeman (Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider) has arrived. Watch it below. It also features Lost‘s Matthew Fox as the sadistic killer Cross is chasing.

In the Rob Cohen-directed psychological thriller “Alex Cross,” Tyler Perry drops his comedic shtick to play the titular homicide detective/psychologist entangled in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a military-trained serial killer, played by a psychotic-looking Matthew Fox (TV’s Lost). The film is the latest adaptation based on the worldwide best-selling crime novels by James Patterson; previously released film versions, “Kiss the Girls” and “Along Came a Spider,” starred Morgan Freeman as the iconic Cross character. And while Freeman’s Cross was much more cerebral, judging by this film’s newly released first trailer, it appears Perry’s Cross has no qualms about brandishing a saw-off shotgun and taking matters in his own hands. The film opens in theaters on Oct. 19th.

Crusading Detective/Psychologist Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) meets his match when he goes against psychotic, mob “hit man”, Michael “The Butcher” Sullivan (Matthew Fox). As Cross investigates the hit man’s gruesome murders, Sullivan decides to send him a deadly message by killing his wife in cold blood. Enraged, Cross vows to hunt down the killer, if it’s the last thing he does. However, Sullivan is a mastermind and continues to evade Cross while pushing him to an ethical breaking point as a cop and father. As Cross closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable- a revelation that can change everything.

Alex Cross stars Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, Jean Reno, Edward Burns, Giancarlo Esposito, Rachel Nichols, John C. McGinley, Cicely Tyson, Carmen Ejogo
