For anyone who follows Japanese gaming charts you’d realise that on average a game usually sells no more than like 50k a week when it debuts. Let’s say if that game is a “heavy hitter” it’d sell about 200k or so, but every once in a while there’s a game that you know the Japanese are gonna go out and buy whether it is new Monster Hunter or Mario game. I mean I knew One Piece was the most popular Manga out there but who would’ve thought the game One Piece Kaizoku Musou would sell so high? The game alone pushed 65,000+ PS3 console sales. I’m sure a lot of folks copped that gorgeous gold limited edition PS3.
Soge-King from One Piece is one of the many bandits aboard Luffy’s ship. Sogeking (or Usopp as he’s known in the earlier series) uses a slingshot known as Kabuto for his primary weapon.
Now a guy on YouTube who’s known to make slingshots on what he calls “The Slingshot Channel” decided to recreate this weapon and see how viable it actually is, however with some additional tweaks. He’s giving it a sharp point at the end of the handle to make it 3 weapons into one: a slingshot, spear and staff. Watch as he decimates (lol) large wood planks with his metal bullets.
Popular online Manga hosting website Mangafox decided to follow the same course of action Mangastream made with taking down the Viz Media licensed series. What that means is for folks that went to the site today to get those weekly dosage of Naruto, Bleach and One Piece were treated with this message “The series Naruto has been licensed, it is not available in Manga Fox.”
In a week that has seen Mangastream faced with no choice but to take down some of their heavy hitters, a lot of sites have been following suite. What’s to happen next? It’s sad seeing such efforts go to waste, but in reality the hardwork of scanlators are not to jeopardize the integrity of the authors by giving the content out for free, but rather to help expand the community over to the western world. A lot of the time fans in the west have to wait at least 3 or so weeks to read what is the latest chapter in Japan. Other times, some series don’t gain enough popularity for them to get translated into English and thus not having a market for them over here. That’s a big part of why scanlators come in.
If only there was a way for the authors to make money off of this or for Viz Media to hire some of these talented folks. It’s really not that people wont by the Mangas, but rather they can’t get them on time, if at all.
Luffy (One piece) and Natsu (Faiy Tail) are both characters that take from the shonen character archetype set down by Goku (Dragon ball/Z/GT). The dumb, happy go lucky guy that likes to eat a lot, those are some of the similar traits between these two. Who is there better character Natsu or Luffy? (more…)
Publisher Namco Bandai Games announced in a press conference on Monday (13th Feb. 12) that their upcoming Shonen Manga game One Piece Kaizoku Musou has reached 500,000 pre-orders. In case most of you don’t already know, if you live in the far east and you don’t like One Piece, then there’s something wrong with you. So with that said, it really puts some perspective as to why this game has racked up so many pre-orders.
One Piece Kaizoku Musou will release on March 1st for the Playstation 3 in Japan, priced at a whooping 8,190 yen (US$100). Anyone getting this imported?

The new scan above was shown in Shonen Jump and reveals Fire Fist Ace, Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), Boa Hancock, and the Straw Hat’s musician Brook will be playable characters in One Piece: Pirate Warriors (Kaizoku Musou). The confirmed playable count is now 12 as Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Robin, Franky, Usopp and Chopper are the other confirmed 8 playable characters.
The real question is will this game see a North American release?
Toei, the film production team behind the new One Piece movie have shed some light today on what fans can expect from the upcoming Anime feature film. We will see our favourite pirates in the New World (current arc setting) where they’ll dual with their strongest opponent so far, a man named Z. What we’re going to see is a showdown between Luffy and Z. Who will reign supreme? Will the gomu gomu no factor come into play? Who knows, but what we do know is that One Piece New World movie will surely be a blast.
