Confirmed: Final Fantasy X HD Is A Remaster
During Sony’s TGS 2011 Keynote, Square-Enix dropped a bombshell. As a way of celebrating its tenth anniversay Final Fantasy X would receive the HD treatment for the Vita and PS3. Since then, we haven’t heard much about either version of Final Fantasy X HD. The last time we heard about it was in early January when original producer Yoshinori Kitase would be overseeing the project.
There has been much debate about whether FF X HD would be an HD remake similar to Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary Edition, or an HD remaster like the rest of Sony’s PS2-era collections. After almost five months of being left in the dark, we finally have the answer.
During an interview at Taipei Game Show, Square-Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto revealed that Final Fantasy X HD would in fact be a remastered version of the 10-year old PS2 classic.

hmmm, I read the JP press release and I think 橋本’s message was misinterpreted. He mentions that the functional aspects of gameplay have been changed to reflect the discrepancy in the engine as well.
It’s not merely a cosmetic change.
