Further Details Surrounding PSN’s Change To SEN Emerge

Further Details Surrounding PSN’s Change To SEN Emerge playstation vita playstation 3 news video games Yesterday, with the help of NeoGaf, AnalogHype reported that Sony’s “PlayStation Network” would be called the “Sony Entertainment Network” following a mandatory System Software Update for the Vita and PS3. At the time, I had yet to receive the email, so the only information we had to go off was Psykotik’s email that he received from the PlayStation Network. Since then, the email has been popping up in PSN users’ inboxes. I just recently received the email myself and I have further details regarding this System Software Update. The email states

On February 7, 2012, Sony Network Entertainment International LLC (“SNEI”) will update its Terms of Service and User Agreement and its Privacy Policy. As a part of this update, your “PlayStation®Network account” will be renamed a “Sony Entertainment Network account”

If you refer back to the email in the previous article, you’ll see that the update date stated in that email was February 8 not February 7, this confirms that the update will coincide with next week’s PlayStation Store update for all the PSN regions. So Americans will receive the update on Tuesday while Europeans will receive the update a day later, Wednesday.

The email also details some of the changes that will be made to the Terms of Service and User Agreement and Privacy Policy:

  • New terms for parents of minor, subaccount holders regarding the limitations of chat parental controls. Your reacceptance of the Terms of Service and User Agreement and Privacy Policy affirms your consent to the sharing of your child’s data that may occur if your child utilizes certain communication functionalities on PlayStation devices such as PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems.
  • New terms that explain the location-based services offered through the PlayStation Vita system. For parents of minor, subaccount holders your reacceptance of the Terms of Service and User Agreement and Privacy Policy affirms your consent to your subaccount holder’s user of these services on the PlayStation Vita system.
  • A description of our “What’s New” section, which provides topical information about our services and advertisements.
  • Information about pre-ordering content.
  • The name of your “PlayStation Network account” is changing to a “Sony Entertainment Network account.”
The rest of the email just explains that the change from PSN to SEN is purely a name change, and will have no effect on your current username or password, nor will Sony ask that you change either of these things.
