Hands On: Mafia 2

A first glance, Mafia 2 can be looked at as Grand Theft Auto/The Godfather clone. In reality its really something deeper. Mafia 2 is a very detailed free roaming experience. I’m talking about lots of enviromental interactions. You can pratically interact with everything. At the start of my time with the game, I was able to open the fridge and pig out on food and drinks. Your able to switch on lights, lamps, pick up phones. You also have access to vintage Playboy magazines. I was dissapointed to find out that the Playboy magazines didn’t provide and power ups but I can live with that. Walked out the house and you have access to a garage. The garage gives you details of the cars including max speed, condition and lots of unnecessary but cool details. The dashboard of the vehicles mimic the styling of there clones.

After I reached a checkpoint, I was thrown in a battle to get across the street. The action has a mayhem feel to it but thats contributed to the realistic gun sounds. When you shoot a gun you can really feel it. You can also recognize each gun by its sound. Each gun has a unique sound and feel. Each handgun has a different recoil feel to it, so picking one that meets your gaming style is key. You also need to use cover to survive. This is not Grand Theft Auto where you can run up and blast away. You need to take cover and shoot when you can or your days in the Mafia is numbered. Mafia 2 really brings you back into the days gangsters run the street and we can’t wait to see more.
