How to: Play Your PS3 games On Your Vita Via Remote Play
During Sony’s TGS 2011 Conference, Sony revealed that they were bringing Remote Play to their newest handheld, the PlayStation Vita. Remote Play is a feature that streams content like music, videos, and some games, to your Vita from your PS3. This feature is available wherever you have a wifi-connection, and can be activated by pairing up your Vita to your PS3. The interesting thing about this is that you can remotely turn your PS3 on or off from your Vita, effectively lowering your electricity bill just in case you forget to turn off your PS3 at any time. To truly show off this feature, Sony demoed both LittleBigPlanet 2 and Killzone 3, running seemlesly on the Vita. Because the Vita lacks R2 and L2 buttons, these buttons were mapped to the rear touch pad. Since these brief demoes were shown, rumors have been circulating that this feature would be available for all PS3 games by the time the Vita launched in Japan on December 17, 2011. Well, that day came and went, and no PS3 game supports this feature just yet, you’re only able to play PS1 games, Minis, and some PSN games right now. This is true, but only if you’re running an official Firmware on your PS3.
Yesterday, the internet was abuzz with speculation about the validity of a recently uploaded video by the YouTube user homer49, showing Remote Play running various PS3 games: Battlefield 3, Alice, Red Dead Redemption, Arkham Asylum, and more. Following much questioning from the gaming community, homer49 released a video (in Spanish) detailing how to enable this function on your Vita, but there’s one catch. Your PS3 has to be running Custom Firmware 3.55. Because the video was in Spanish, I contacted homer49 to see if he would be able to give me a list of instruction in English. Homer49 delivered. Below is a list of instructions, as well as the Spanish video, detailing how you can enjoy your PS3 games on your Vita. Enjoy, and thank you very much homer49.
