Next Week on PlayStation Plus – Prototype 2, Ubisoft’s 50% off Sale and More
Last night’s PlayStation Blogcast episode gave us a sneak peek of items that will be released next week on the PlayStation Store. As a part of our PlayStation Plus focus, we’ve compiled a list of what to be prepared for in the PlayStation Plus section. Join us after the break to see what’s in store for next week!
After a year of delays, Rock of Ages finally makes its way to the PlayStation Network next week! Free for PlayStation Plus members, Rock of Ages is a light-hearted, yet seemingly interesting take on the tower defense genre.
The story of Rock of Ages follows that of the mythological Greek King Sisyphus as he struggles to push a boulder up a hill in the depths of hell for all eternity. In an effort to take charge of his situation, Sisyphus breaks out of hell using the power of the rock and sets out on a quest to slay various historical and mythological figures throughout time.
The basic element of gameplay sees the player take control of the ever-so-powerful rock as you navigate your way down a steep, narrow pathway, ala Super Monkey Ball, to penetrate your enemy’s defenses and win the match. While you’re doing that, your opponent will be doing the same, which requires you to build defenses along the path to your base so you can stall of time.
With multiple levels to play through, local and online multiplayer, and various game modes, Rock of Ages looks like it will be an interesting title to pick up.
GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is an HD remaster of the previous year’s GoldenEye 007 for the Wii. This game attempts to capitalize upon the memories that you or I have of the N64 original, by bringing back what made the game fun and unique for its time.
Instead of the James Bond of the N64 era, Pierce Brosnan, you’ll be playing as the newest Bond, Daniel Craig which makes this a reimaging rather than a remaster of the original title. This change of character might deter fans away from the title, but from what I’ve seen, this does little to distract you from the overall experience.
The game features updated visuals from its Wii counterpart as well as a modern take on some elements found in the N64 classic. For instance, hacking scenes will be played out by using your smartphone. Reloaded also features an online multiplayer mode for you to take down opponents as your favorite bond characters, classic four-player local multiplayer, and PlayStation Move support.
While this title was heavily dismissed by many, having it as a Full Game Trial for PlayStation Plus members will hopefully let people decide on whether this is worth the purchase.
Prototype 2 is the sequel to 2009′s Prototype. This time around you play as Sergeant James Heller who has been infected by the Mercer Virus after pursuing Prototype 1′s protagonist, Alex Mercer. Along the way, Heller will uncover numerous secrets that will test his mettle and determination. Included with the downloadable release is Radnet, Prototype 2′s take on the season pass system. Radnet provides players with 55 pieces of DLC released on a week-by-week basis to really lengthen the gameplay and fun-factor of Prototype 2. You can try out Prototype 2 in the Trials section of PlayStation Plus this Tuesday.
The final thing talked about in yesterday’s PlayStation Blogcast episode was a Ubisoft sale. The Blogcast stated that “almost every” Ubisoft title on the PlayStation Store will be available for a 30% discount for PSN members or 50% for PlayStation Plus members. While they didn’t go into detail about which titles would or would not be included, it did seem like a good portion of them would be available at a reasonable price.
