Oddworld: Abes Odyssey New n Tasty Announced; Coming Fall 2013

Just Add Water keeps adding those announcements! Just after revealing Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD’s Vita release date, JAW came in with another hard-hitter; Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey New ‘n’ Tasty.

Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey New ‘n’ Tasty – formerly Oddworld: Abe HD – is an HD remake of the 1997 PSOne classic.

Many changes have been done to modernize this version of Abe’s adventure. First off, JAW revealed that the flip screen scrolling of the previous title has been done away with, in place of a dynamic screen that sways according to Abe’s movements. This means that the faster Abe moves, the more the screen sways, allowing the player to see upcoming enemies and make any necessary adjustments to their playstyle.

Furthermore, all of the game’s FMV’s have been rendered in real-time, allowing for a crisp, clean look without any of that pesky slowdown.

Rolling with the change in flip-screen mechanic of yester-year, Gilray and the JAW team had to make some changes to Abe’s Odyssey, in the way it plays, but rest assured the game is 80%-90% the same as the original.

“In the original game, the fifth screen into it, there was a sleeping Slig. When you walked into the screen he woke up. To reset it you just walked off screen and came back on screen again creeping. We don’t have flip screens any more, so we’ve made it so he times out. Say he walks around for 10 seconds and you haven’t moved, he won’t have heard anything and will go back to sleep again,” Gilray stated, giving one of numerous examples of small changes that they’ve had to make.

Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey New ‘n’ Tasty will be available next Autumn (between September and November) on PSN, XBL and Steam. An iOS and Android release is being considered.
