Wii U might actually be weaker than both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3

An anonymous source spoke to gameindustry.biz today and shelled out a few details about Nintendo’s upcoming HD successor to the Wii, the Wii U. According to him, “it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 and 360,” and “the graphics are just not powerful”. Pretty much in a nutshell: the console that was expected to be the most superior till the next gen consoles come, won’t be. It’s a damn shame, but kinda expected in a way. I’m never one to believe the hype and PR ballsack of info that gets shoved down our throats before something drops, because in this case, graphics is the big talking point before we get the device onto our hands. However as far as the developer is concerned, there definitely will be ways in which Nintendo harness the power in the most beautiful of ways (lol). Shout outs to Mario Galaxy.

Honestly though, does Nintendo really even NEED the graphics to be successful with the next gen devices? The Wii is proof that graphics aren’t everything if you have a great concept and a very user-friendly device that appeals to a broad user base.

I’m not saying the Wii U will fit that same mold or even have the same reach as the Wii did, but graphics aren’t the end-all be-all. But, I will admit, better graphics is what all we nerd gamers love, so I do hope they exceed the description from the article.

We need to wait until june to see how super mario and other games look on the wii u.

Now, if this is true, and no HD and superb graphics are displayed in nintendo’s next console, we can say good bye to this once glorious company.
